An informal conversation with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya

Almost 4 years since the last presidential elections in Belarus and one year before the next one we want to touch base and talk about the current developments with the leader of the Belarusian democratic movement, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.

Will the upcoming elections change the regime’s strategies? Can the freedom for political prisoners be negotiated? What role will Belarus play in the Russia’s war against Ukraine in the nearest future? We will address these and other relevant questions during this informal conversation with Sviatlana.

The representatives from the Association of Belarusians in Norway Razam will also touch upon some issues that Belarusians in Norway are facing at the moment.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is a National Leader of Belarus and a Head of the United Transition Cabinet, who, according to the independent observers, won the presidential election on August 9, 2020.

Since then, she has visited more than 28 countries, working to gather support and advocate for the release of more than 1400 political prisoners and a peaceful transition of power through free and fair elections.  In meetings with President Biden, Chancellor Merkel, President Macron, President von der Leyen, President Charles Michel, Prime Minister Trudeau, and other world leaders, Tsikhanouskaya emphasized the need for a braver response to the actions of the Belarusian dictatorship.

The conversation will be moderated by:

Berit Lindeman, Secretary General of the Norwegian Helsinki Committee

With participation of:

Darya Shut, Representative for Razam, the Association of Belarusians in Norway

Rasmus Hansson, Member of Parliament for the Green Party (MDG), member of the Support Group for Democratic Belarus
