The event “How to fight impunity for political repression in Belarus and Russia?” was a success

The 25 February the Norwegian Helsinki Committee hosted a side event on how to fight impunity for political repression in Belarus and Russia. The event turned out to be a very fruitful one.

The contributors did an impressive job in conveying what challenges the political opposition in an authoritarian regime face. The participants at the panel discussion gave an overview of the current situation in Belarus and Russia respectively, and proposed ways that international organizations and the wider international community could address the extensive impunity problem.

Among the participants at the event, was the leader of the political opposition Svetlana Tsikhanouskaya. Her message was clear: – On our side we have the truth – the Belarusian people want change and do not support the status quo. They stood up against violence and lies, and will not back off.

A massive thank you to all the people who contributed in making the event interesting, relevant and of great importance.
