Sara is responsible for the advocacy and communications initiatives of the project International Panel of Parliamentarians for Freedom of Religion or Belief (IPPFoRB).

Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Sara has broad experience in communications, social justice, minority rights and democracy.

In addition to her bachelor’s degree in World History and Politics, she holds a postgraduate degree in International Journalism, and she is currently writing her thesis for a Master’s degree in Theory and Practices of Human Rights at the University of Oslo.

«Coming from a country as diverse as Brazil, I have a unique perspective and recognition of the role that human rights play in ensuring that diversity exists and is respected. Religions and beliefs are the historical engines that have shaped the lives of individuals for generations. I believe that human rights and development discourses are incomplete if they do not stress the urgent need to promote the right of individuals to freedom of religion or belief. Being in contact with parliamentarians from diverse countries is a unique chance to understand these challenges and identify opportunities for creating more democratic societies.”

Sara is moved by written narratives and visual storytelling. Prior to her start in the NHC, she covered the 2022 Brazilian presidential elections for the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten.

Sara’s passion for human rights inspired her to found the social project, Rede Amando in Rio, an initiative that since 2014 has worked to eliminate cycles of poverty and exclusion through access to nutrition programs and educational opportunities.
