Ratko Mladic arrested in Serbia

The Helsinki Committee looks forward to ratko Mladic being sentenced for prosecution in The Hague. This is an important day for international criminal law, says Secretary General of the Helsinki Committee Bjørn Engesland.

Several are already convicted of genocide and other serious crimes that were carried out in conjunction with Mladic, where Mladic was the supreme military officer. The Helsinki Committee hopes that this arrest will involve a new approach in Serbia to its role in the wars of former Yugoslavia. Here is a long way to go, a poll recently showed that only 34% of the population in Serbia would support an extradition and that 40% considered him as a hero. The Helsinki Committee demands that Goran Hadzic, the last ICTY wanted to be arrested, must be arrested. Hadzic is accused of his role in the Serbian outbreak of Croatia.
